Outreach Educator 
Part-time teaching position available immediately with the possibility of full time if desired. Current TN license needed to teach outreach classes to PK-5th grade. Teacher will travel to Knox, Blount, and surrounding counties with all materials necessary to teach science and technology to students. Lesson plans and materials provided. This position requires enthusiasm, good class management skills, and the ability to lift and transport tubs of materials. Brief description: Playologists work alongside children and families at the Muse helping to facilitate discovery, exploration and play with our exhibits.
Department: Visitor Services
Reports to: Visitor Services Manager and Visitor Services Coordinator
Status: Part-time up to 28 Hours Per Week

  • Explore and interact with exhibits alongside children and their caregivers in a high energy environment.
  • Model to children and parents appropriate interaction with exhibits.
  • Help deepen children’s understanding of topics and activities in our exhibits through questioning, play, activity suggestions and discussion.
  • Maintain exhibit cleanliness.
  • Ensure the safety of visitors through effective communication.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Museum "happenings" in order to enhance visitor's experience.
  • Inform manager immediately if an exhibit needs repair or if a visitor’s behavior is unsafe in an exhibit.
  • Ability to learn to effectively engage all visitors with different learning styles.

  • Lift 20 pounds
  • Pass a background check
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina for 8 hour day on feet, bending and playing
  • Positive attitude
  • Understanding of basic technology
  • Teaching experience a plus!
